Echo Dot (3rd Gen) Heather Gray with Echo Auto

With a nicer design and significantly improved sound, the third-generation Echo Dot is Amazon’s best-ever, cheapest speaker ever.

When the first Echo Dot appeared, it drove Amazon by a huge advantage in the arena of the smart home.

Dot was a cheap way to get Alexa into her home, and she made a great gift.

In fact, it’s the best Alexa tool to get a budget with.

Google’s response, home mini, not only looked better, but also sounded better.

The third-generation Echo returns to the top of Amazon’s budget smart speaker pack.

That’s why I named it one of the best smart speakers.

Amazon has an alternative version of the Echo Dot and has a built-in LED display. It’s called Echo Dot with Clock.

It’s a ball, not a hockey puck, and offers the “Clock” version in two colors.

It took Google’s much more attractive Home and Home Mini edition to make Amazon think more seriously about what its flagship Alexa devices look like.

As a result, the third generation Echo Dot trades all the plastic sides of its predecessors for a fabric-covered surface.

With softer, rounder edges, the new Dot looks more like a hockey plur and more like something you’d want in your living room.

As before, dot has LEDs burning in blue while listening to Alexa at the top; You will also find two volume buttons, a button to turn the microphone on or off, and a button to activate Alexa.

3.9 inches in diameter and 1.7 inches long, the third-generation Dot is slightly larger than the second-generation Dot, which is only 3.3 inches wide and 1.3 inches high.

While the third-generation Dot is available in three colors (charcoal, heather gray, and sandstone white), its new design means you can no longer use most of the third-party finishes, cases, and accessories made for the second generation dot.

As with the old Dot, you can connect the third generation device to an external speaker via a 3.5mm audio jack or play music via Dot via Bluetooth connection.

Another small improvement is that the third generation Echo Dot supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi, while the second generation only supports 802.11n.

Echo Dot sound quality

At 1.1 inches in size, the speaker in the third-generation Dot is half an inch larger than before and shows extra size.

Playing music in the second-gen Dot was a mind-boggling experience, such as tuning in to music on a second rate class portable radio.

From the opening bars of Bruce Springsteen’s “Thunder Road,” it immediately became clear that the new Dot was much superior.

The opening drum show sounded static in the 2nd generation Dot, but in 3rd generation Dot, Max Weinberg’s sticks finally got their rights.

But how does the new Echo Dot compare to the other smart budget speaker, Google Home Mini?

Looks like it’s better in most ways. When playing Prince’s “Raspberry Beret,” Dot had a much fuller bass and was generally louder.

The vocals were a little muted in the default equalizer settings, but the maximum of the high-leveler helped a little.

What you can do with Alexa

The previous Echo Dot had seven microphones to hear his voice and did a good job of it; the third generation was equally sensitive and sensitive.

Alexa’s talents continue to grow, it’s enough to say, there are now more than 50,000 skills available, and these include everything from playing Jeopardy to lighting your lights, ordering pizza and going to the airport.

Here are our favorite skills for Alexa.

In Echo Dot (as with other Alexa speakers), you can stream audio via Amazon Music, Spotify, Deezer, SiriusXM, Pandora, iHeartRadio and TuneIn.

Like its skills, Amazon continues to add new smart home partners, so you’ll have a hard time finding a device that doesn’t work with Alexa.

From the best smart thermostats to the best smart lights, smart locks, smart sockets, smart light switches, and home security cameras, many of the top brands can be controlled through Alexa.

Amazon is also developing smart home Routines, where you can control a group of smart home devices like “Alexa Goodnight” with a single command to turn off all your lights and lock your doors.

It’s not as robust as what you can do with a smart home hub like SmartThings, but it will be enough for most consumers.

Other features include the ability to use Alexa to call others and send messages, enter other Alexa devices, and post a message to every Echo device in your home.

Easy Echo Dot Decision

For the second generation Echo Dot, or the only complaint speaker was not great for music.

Amazon fixed it and made the third-generation Dot a smart speaker that was really worth listening to. Third-generation Dot is the best and most affordable way to get Alexa into your home.

If I had to nitpick, I’d say you can’t add a cover to change Dot’s appearance anymore. Apart from that, Echo Dot for price is practically an excellent smart speaker.
